Working with an exceptional team of Master Teachers--some of whom are Race and Place 07 alumni-- workshop participants will complete daily curriculum projects that are closely aligned with each day's field studies and lectures. The curriculum sessions will be lively and challenging, allowing educators to exchange best practices and providing them with resources to incorporate the workshop experience into their own classrooms. Curriculum projects will include analyzing and contrasting the DC Emancipation Act and the Emancipation Proclamation, using the new Digital Decatur House website as a tool for teaching and learning about African American experiences on Lafayette Square, bringing the records of the Freedmen's Bank into the classroom, and how digital photographs and GoogleMaps can be combined to document the workshop experiences. |
